I am slowly catching up on creating and posting my scrapbook pages. This layout is for my 2011 scrapbook. It was the first time that we took Dallas to a movie, we had no choice....Cars 2 was showing. My son has been a Disney Cars fanatic since he was 2 years old. We have almost every character, the bedding, both movies (and Mater's Tall Tales), a backpack, dishes, toothbrush......you get the picture. On a side note...we went yesterday to see Monsters University and there was a preview for a new Disney "Cars" movie called Planes. Dallas was so excited......great, thank you Disney....now I'm sure we will get to buy a bunch of new Planes charters too :)
Anyway, we had a lot of fun, and I am so glad that I thought to take a picture of him in front of the movie poster. Combined with the ticket stubs, it made a great scrapbook page. I also wanted to tell a bit of the story, but I don't like my handwriting, so I created a pocket using the picture and ticket stubs, and it fits nicely. To make the page, I used my Cricut and the Disney Cars cartridge to cut out Lightning McQueen and the Cars logo. I added a sticker "2" to the logo to mimic the Cars 2 logo. Then for the background, I used chalk to create a winding road with grass and a sunset. I love using chalk, it's perfect for those times that you know exactly what you want, but can't find it. As I prepare for our "fireman" 5th birthday party for Dallas, I can't help but think about last year's party. Dallas' 4th birthday, was a Thomas the Train party, so we had the cake, outfit, and decorations all to match. This was the first gathering we had hosted, since our move to Denton, and we were not real sure how it would go. We invited our family, close friends, and some of the new friends that Dallas had made at his daycare. It was a beautiful day, we had a full house and everyone had a great time. I scrapbooked this page using a great page kit from Lickety Split Scrapbooks. If you like to scrap using page kits or you are looking for something fast, they have a pretty good selections. I bought the kit at the Great American Scrapbook Convention, which I look forward to attending every year. I changed the layout of the page kit, which I do most of the time. The kit as it was did not allow for the number of photos that I wanted to use. I also added the colorful foam stars, the letter stickers, and the journaling pocket. I don't like my handwritting, but think it is important to use it sometimes, so that people will know a little more about me, so I tend to tuck it away or hid my journaling on my layouts. Last year, my wonderful boss, invited us all to go to a Texas Rangers game. I think my son, Dallas and my husband, Vertis had more fun in the play center than we did watching the game. I was sure that these pictures would made for a great layout. I started by cutting out all the peices, using the Cricut and the Sports Mania Cartridge. Next I typed my journaling and printed it out. Then it was a simple as matting the pictures and putting it all together. Notice that I used one of the pictures as a pocket to tuck our ticket stubs into for safe keeping.

So, I wanted to share this scrapbook page I did of her and the pictures that I took of her on Easter 2011. You have to know, one of the great things about Brooke, is that she is always dirty. She likes to run with the boys and I think everytime I see her, she needs her face washed. So, for her to be clean for long enough to take some pictures is a near miracle, but that's why we all love her so much! I started this page, by picking the paper. It was this beautiful gray paper, with flowers outlined on the side of it. I knew I wanted to use this paper, but wanted to also match the pink sash that Brooke is wearing in the pictures. So, I colored the flowers using my chalk. I used two different shades of pink to add a bit of shading. It is pretty rare that I am able to get a great picture of the three of them, as someone is always making a funny face or acting silly. I love this picture because, to me, it shows how much they love spending time with each other. I was really afraid when we moved to Denton, which is about two hours away from the rest of our family, that my son would lose all the great chances to make memories with his cousins. I was lucky and am really close to my cousins and want that for him as well. Moving hasn’t seemed to change anything, except the excitement in their eyes when they see each other. This page uses clear accents. I love the blue glitter paper, but couldn’t really find another piece of cardstock or pattern paper that looked right. So, I thought, why fight it, use something clear. The heart brads, were originally pink, so I colored them with a black paint marker. The page really came together. The focus is still on the kids and the joy of being together. We had some snapshots of all three of us together, but nothing done professionally. I found that one of my former dance students is now a professional photographer in Forney, Texas. If you are near Forney, Tucker Images is great. She took some amazing shots of our family, but this one was my favorite. When it was time to scrapbook this picture, I wanted to highlight the black and white picture, but still have some really bright colors as well. I love bright, bold colors in everything…my scrapbooks and my photography. I wish I could remember where I got this sketch from, but it was out of one of my scrapbooking magazines. I adapted it a bit to add the large title block at the top. I cut the letters for “KELLY” using my Cricut, cut the four color strips out of textured cardstock and inked the edges using my Stampin Up black ink pad. Then it was a easy as gluing it all together, adding the ribbon and the metal accents. I love how the black and white photo “pops” off the page.
